SportX Academy Leagues Forum

Sponsorx Forum-JHB-4

SportX Academy to Convene Pro Leagues

The SportX Academy Leagues Forum will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 14 June 2025 on the same day as the 2025 NBA Africa BAL Finals.

It will bring together stakeholders representing professional sports leagues from across Africa and beyond.

The Forum will follow the SportX Academy Sponsorship Forum and the SportX Social Media Awards, which will both take place the day before, on 13 June 2025, also in Johannesburg.

The key issue to be debated at the Forum is how Africa could raise the bar for managing professional sports leagues on the continent. This includes promoting collaboration between leagues from different codes and becoming leaders in innovation and excellence in world sports.

From the outset, the main objective of the Forum is to equip boards and executives with the latest strategies required to effectively manage professional leagues and consolidate commercial growth through sustainable commercial and institutional partnerships.

The Forum will explore diverse topics, including the future of sports leagues, the evolving broadcasting landscape and in-house content creation, fan engagement and communications, sponsorship and marketing strategies, international collaboration across leagues, sustainability initiatives for green leagues with funding mechanisms, and innovative revenue streams and league concepts.

The launch of the SportX Leagues Africa Network (SLAN), which also take place during the event and it will serve as a think tank for people working in professional sports leagues across Africa.

Attendees at the Forum will be representatives of the who’s who from sports leagues from across the world, inclusive of boards, senior management executives, corporate partners, sponsors and sponsorship executives, the media and government representatives.

According to the organiser, Gerrit Davids, MD of Gerom Media, “The SportX Academy Leagues Forum will drive improved governance, foster stronger league-sponsor partnerships, and elevate digital and media innovation across African pro leagues."

"This Forum, which coincides with the NBA Africa BAL playoffs and finals, will catalyse the growth and global competitiveness of African pro leagues, amplifying their impact on sports and the wider economy."

“Johannesburg, as one of Africa’s leading business and sports hubs, provides the perfect backdrop for the Forum. With world-class facilities, a vibrant sports culture, and a rich history of hosting international events, the city embodies the energy and potential of African sports,” said Davids.
