Marathonex Forum will debate the future of marathons and also hand out, industry awards
The inaugural online Marathonex Forum & Awards will be held as part of the SportsActive Indaba on Thursday 29 October 2020.
According to organisers, Gerom Media, the Forum comes as a response to a gap in this sector, where no event is currently being held with the sole focus to celebrate marathons and debate the business strategies required to organise successful races once the go-ahead is given by government, post the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, respectively.
Davids says, “Most other high profile sports like soccer, rugby, cricket and the major league codes, all have conferences attracting the best of minds to exchange knowledge and that the time has come for marathons to also have its own business conference to debate common challenges and to virtually network with each other”.
“Marathonex will set the benchmark for debating the future of organising and hosting world class marathons that delivers legacy and future sustainability for all its stakeholders under the new normal”.
The Forum will primarily focus on the business and commercial elements required to stage successful races, which are inclusive of the desired socio and economic impact, return on investment and objectives for organisers, host city and commercial partners, etc.
The Forum will feature highly interactive panel discussions with industry and government thought leaders debating the best practices to exploit the overall benefits afforded by marathons.
The Marthonex Awards will also be held on the same date and will be handed out in 30 different categories to celebrate excellence in South African marathons.
