The inaugural Football+ Summit, will take place place alongside Nigeria’s crucial and last FIFA World Cup 2018™ – group match against Argentina in St. Petersburg, Russia on 26 June 2018.
The Summit will be a two-day affair starting on 25 June 2018 with the main focus on the role of Government and its support for initiatives and projects, which use football as tool for social change.
The Summit is staged in partnership between the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF) and South African based, events company, Gerom Media, Sports & Entertainment (Pty) Ltd with the main objective to stimulate and facilitate debate between government, football organisations and social change agencies on sustainable strategies for grassroots programmes promoting social change and cohesion.
The Summit will strive to live up to and endeavour to give meaning to Nelson Mandela’s statement, when he said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand”.
The Summit will also be dedicated to the great statesman’s centenary celebrations and remind the world of what he stood for when faced with adversity and his humane response to his enemies and detractors when he said that unity shall be the order of the day.
Invitations to the Summit will be extended to sports ministers, national, state and municipal government leaders from around the world, FIFA and all its’ affiliated national members, international donors and agencies, social agencies using sport as a tool for change and many other stakeholders involved with the concept of ‘football for good’.
