Johannesburg - Football business in Africa will be recognised at the inaugural African Football Business Awards or the AFBAs, which will bestow accolades on the continent’s leading FAs, leagues, clubs, sponsors, government and a whole host of other stakeholders.
Announcing the Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa, organisers, Gerom Media Sports & Entertainment (Pty) Ltd, said that the AFBAs will aim to become the leading football business awards programme in Africa and it will eventually stand alongside all other similar ones from around the world.
The AFBAs will have six separate segments respectively for FAs, leagues, clubs, government, sponsors and media categories, with each bestowing awards for club and leagues chairmen and CEOs as well as a CEO and President awards for the FA segment.
In the government segment, awards will be handed out to those organs of state, which have contributed vastly towards both grassroots and elite football development in their respective geographical domains.
Awards will be given to winners in categories for local, state or provincial as well as at national government level.
Sponsors of African football will also receive their spot in the limelight and be recognised for their contribution towards the sustainability of football on the continent and in particular keeping the game alive for both supporters and fans alike.
Any awards programme will not be complete if it does not give recognition to the media for its coverage of the beautiful game and winners will be announced in categories for television, radio, print media and online media outlets, respectively.
Each of the six Awards segments will also have a Chairman’s Award to give recognition to trailblazers for having contributed extensively towards football development in their respective sectors.
