Institute to release a list of the most influential people in African football
Johannesburg – The African Football Institute (AFI) will release its inaugural list of Africa’s most influential list of people involved in football on the continent.
The “African 100 Football Power List” will feature the personalities who have made a major impact on the game and were extensively featured in the media over the last year.
Awards will thus be handed out to the ‘most influential people’ in football that have dominated the African media landscape during 2017.
Awards in the FA categories will give recognition to the top ten African FA Presidents, Secretary-Generals and Communications Managers respectively.
The List will also feature and bestow awards upon the top twenty African Football Power Brokers of the Year as well as a special award for Africa’s Football Media Personality of the Year, going to the person with the biggest media profile in football on the continent.
According to Gerrit Davids, Founder and President of the AFI, “The African 100 Football Power List”, was necessitated by the absence of a lack initiatives to give recognition to the continent’s people that are involved in developing the game and to award them for the unselfish contribution to make African football a force to be reckoned with”
Davids says, “that while other industries have well established awards programmes, it seems that football has always shied away from such initiatives, to recognise the trail blazers in the game.”
“The List will be part of series to celebrate the achievements African football and it will be followed by the “African Football 100 Leagues & Clubs Power List” as well as the “African Football Brand Index” at the end of 2018.
The list was compiled based on data, which are available in the public domain as well as a combination of a person’s online and media mentions.
The List will be released at the upcoming Football Africa Forum and the 2nd meeting of the African Football Alliance (AFA), taking place in Lagos on 18-20 February 2018.
